Kidney Infection – Pyelonephritis (PI-low-nef-RI-tis)

Kidney infection happens when bacteria has managed to take up residence in both kidneys and multiply. Kidney infection is also known as Pyelonephritis (PI-low-nef-RI-tis) in medical terms when infections are found on the tubules and nephrons of kidney. Anyone who suspect they display any kind of kidney infection symptoms should consult their doctor quickly as it could lead to blood poisoning or worst still kidney failure in which could lead to death.
What causes kidney infections?
Kidney infections happens when bacteria has made its way to the kidney. Bacteria can be originated from the bladder (if the person has bladder infection especially cystitis). But not all patients who suffer from cystitis will develop kidney infection.
Kidney stones are another culprit which could cause infection in the kidney if that person doesn’t have any bladder infection. Ureter blockage could also cause kidney infection. Usually the bacteria will reach the kidney via bloodstream.
Some other conditions which could lead to kidney infection include pregnancy, people who is diabetic and cancer. Urinary tract which functions abnormally could prevent the ability to combat the bacteria which causes kidney infections.
Tubes which are inserted through urethra in order to drain the bladder (Foley catheters) may cause kidney infection if they were left in it for a period of time.
Sometimes in rare circumstances, women might also contract kidney infections from sex when the bacteria travel into the urinary tract.
Remember, kidney infection symptoms vary from person to person.
