Diet for Kidney Disease

People who suffered from kidney infection or kidney disease sometimes are required to undergo a special diet. Please also be aware of the differences kidney infection symptoms  and other kidney disease symptoms. The purpose of the diet is to allow the kidney to heal and also at the same time reduced the damages already done to the kidney. The diet for kidney will help a person to control the quantity of phosphorus, protein, water and sodium intake.

Kidneys are located on both sides near the spines, and just underneath the rib cage. The purpose of kidneys is to remove waste from our body and any excess fluid from blood. And when someone suffered from kidney infection or kidney disease, the functionality of the kidneys to remove the waste is affected. Protein: Protein are required by human body to repair damaged tissues and build muscle tissues. Extra proteins that are discarded from our body are called urea.

Sodium: Salt, high blood pressure and kidney disease are interrelated, and reducing the salt intake is vital.

Potassium: Potassium is common mineral found in food that we consume, and is necessary for our nervous system and muscle movement. Potassium level are control by our kidneys, and potassium build up will cause a condition called hyperkalemia which is dangerous for your heart.

Phosphorus: A high amount of phosphorus will result in calcium loss within the body. As a direct result of low calcium, one will suffer brittle and also weak bones. Bones will become fragile and easy to break. Hence it is wise to have small level of phosphorus in the body. Doctor could also prescribe a medicine which will control the phosphorus from rising. Large quantity of Phosphorus can be found in dairy products such as cheese and milk.

Water: People who suffered from kidney disease only should limit their water intake to not more than 1.4 liters of water a day. Vegetables or fruits which have high water content should also be avoided.

Calories: calories give your body energy, and since protein has been prohibited or reduces, it is advisable for the person to consumed unsaturated fat such as soy beans or corns to balance it out. Please do consult your dietitian on the proper calories intake.
